Mezcal and Tonic

Mezcal and Tonic is a minimalist, effervescent highball that offers a crisp, bubbly alternative to the classic Gin & Tonic. Built directly in a tall glass packed with ice, it pairs 2 oz of smoky, artisanal Mezcal El Silencio Espadín with premium tonic water to balance the spirit's earthy depth. The bittersweet notes of quinine and the subtle sweetness of the tonic highlight the agave's natural citrus and smoke characteristics. Extremely easy to build, this incredibly refreshing drink is finished with a fresh lime wheel or a sliver of grapefruit peel to elevate the bright, botanical aroma.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Mezcal El Silencio

  • 4 oz Premium tonic water (such as Fever-Tree)

  • Grapefruit peel or lime wedge (for garnish)

Instructions:

  • Fill the glass: Fill a highball or large wine glass to the brim with fresh, large ice cubes.

  • Pour: Add the Mezcal El Silencio directly over the ice.

  • Top: Gently pour the premium tonic water into the glass (pouring slowly helps preserve the carbonation).

  • Stir: Give the cocktail a single, gentle lift with a bar spoon to mix the mezcal and tonic without killing the bubbles.

  • Garnish: Express the oils of a fresh grapefruit peel over the glass and drop it in, or simply squeeze and drop in a lime wedge before serving.
