Meet the Founder:
Hi! I’m James and I am incredibly glad you're here.
As a Mexican-American who grew up in the restaurant and bar industry, I had a long-standing belief that tequila was the king of agave spirits. About ten years ago; however, I got my first taste of an ancestral mezcal that completely opened my eyes to the world of agave spirits.
I fell instantly and irreversibly in love with mezcal!
Looking to deepen my knowledge of mezcal, I earned a Level 1 Mezcal Certification from the Agave Spirits Institute in 2020 and traveled to the heart of mezcal producing regions of Mexico to learn more. Since becoming certified, I’ve hosted formal and informal tastings and worked with bars on ways to improve their agave spirits programs.
Through all of this, I discovered a hidden passion for educating mezcal beginners about the history, uniqueness, and culture of mezcal.
And that was the genesis of building MezcalCulture.com.
