Going Out West
Going Out West is a deeply complex, spirit-forward riff on the classic Old Fashioned that brilliantly bridges the gap between American whiskey and Mexican agave. It expertly marries the spicy backbone of high-proof rye whiskey with the earthy, robust smoke of mezcal. Softened by a delicate splash of bittersweet amaro and a touch of rich syrup, this stirred cocktail is served over ice and elegantly finished with an expressed orange zest twist.
Ingredients:
15 ml Amaro (e.g., Averna)
2 dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters
Instructions:
Select and pre-chill an old-fashioned glass.
Prepare a garnish of an orange zest twist.
Stir all ingredients with ice.
Strain into an ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).
Express orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.
