ABOUT:

Tomas Mezcal (also known as Tomas Artesanal) is dedicated to handcrafting small-batch agave spirits that honor the true "Spirit of Mexico." Born in Santa Ana del Rio, a remote village in an isolated valley of Oaxaca, the brand deeply values terroir and authenticity. They compare their mezcal to fine wine, where the natural microclimate and the maker's skill define the spirit, rather than relying on industrial consistency or additives. They maintain a strict ancestral and artisanal process: agave is harvested by hand, slow-cooked in earthen pits, crushed by a horse-drawn stone tahona, naturally fermented using wild airborne yeast (which interacts with local wild fruit trees to impart sweet and savory notes), and distilled in small batches. Deeply committed to the environment, Tomas Mezcal actively supports the future of the region, donating 100% of the profits from certain wild expressions directly to agave sustainability programs.

  • Espadín: The traditional cornerstone of the brand, crafted by Maestro Mezcalero Roque Cruz from 100% Agave Espadín matured for 8 years. Double-distilled in copper pots, it offers a highly approachable, well-balanced profile that is mildly smoky, full-bodied, fruity, and distinctly agave-forward.

  • Tepeztate: A prized, highly limited release made from 100% wild Maguey Tepeztate that takes up to 25 years to mature on inaccessible, steep rocky cliffs. Also crafted by Roque Cruz, this expression honors the time Mother Nature took to grow it, delivering a beautifully bold, intense, and complex flavor profile.

  • Reserva: An innovative and highly awarded (three-time gold medal winner) expression. This savory and sophisticated release is a unique "cold blend" ensemble marrying an unaged, artisanal Espadín mezcal with an aged Añejo Tequila (Maguey Azul/Blue Weber). It leads with a strong, rich smokiness that transitions smoothly into vibrant citrus notes, finishing with a delightful, subtle chocolate sweetness.

  • Raicilla: A rare and exceptional spirit from the Sierra Occidental mountains of Jalisco, handcrafted by Maestro Raicillero Gerardo Peña from 100% Agave Maximiliana. Cooked in a custom wood-fired adobe oven, this expression is uniquely rested in glass for two years to mellow. As a final masterstroke, it is spiked with high-ABV puntas (the purest first cut of the second distillation), resulting in a deeply complex, high-proof profile bursting with bold herbal qualities and rich, savory earth notes.
