La Catrina Negra
La Catrina Negra is a dark, velvety, and deeply aromatic cocktail that balances the brambly sweetness of dark fruit with a hit of fresh herbs. It is made by shaking 1.5 oz of The Lost Explorer Mezcal Espadín with 1 oz of fresh blackberries, 3/4 oz of sweet raspberry-based Chambord liqueur, 1.3 oz of tart lime juice, and 8 fresh basil leaves. Shaking forcefully with ice effectively muddles the blackberries and slaps the basil to unleash their oils. The rich, ruby-purple drink is then strained over fresh ice into an old fashioned glass and garnished beautifully with a fresh basil frond and a few extra blackberries.
Ingredients:
1½ oz / 45 ml The Lost Explorer Mezcal Espadín
1⅓ oz / 40 ml Lime juice
1 oz / 30 ml Blackberries
¾ oz / 25 ml Chambord or berry liqueur
8 Basil leaves
Garnish: Fresh basil frond and blackberries
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Give it a strong shake to muddle the blackberries. Strain into an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish with a fresh basil frond and blackberries. Sip and reminisce.
