Puntiagudo Spirits
ABOUT:
Puntiagudo Destilados (Puntiagudo Spirits) is a deeply personal, terroir-driven project born from a desire to return to the earth. After spending three decades navigating the high-stress corporate world of the automotive industry, founder Cesar Garcia suffered a life-changing heart attack that prompted him to significantly slow his pace and reevaluate his path. Seeking peace and a return to his Oaxacan roots, he began farming agave on weekends—a journey that ultimately led to the creation of Puntiagudo. Operating with absolute transparency and a profound respect for the natural "ecosystem of mezcal," the brand acts as a curator, bottling micro-batches from independent, multi-generational maestros mezcaleros across distinct regions. Whether utilizing artisanal copper stills or ancient ancestral clay pots, Puntiagudo honors the unadulterated soul of the agave, providing drinkers with exceptional traceability regarding harvest dates, fermentation times, and the specific hands that crafted every limited release.

MEZCALS OFFERED:
Espadín "Niños Viejos": Crafted by Maestro Mario Acevedo in Santa María Velató, this expression is the result of a remarkable agricultural anomaly. During a harvest, Acevedo discovered a patch of Espadín agaves that had matured significantly in age but remained unusually small in size—affectionately dubbing them "niños viejos" (old children). This stunted growth highly concentrated the plant's natural sugars and complexities, resulting in an extraordinarily dense, flavor-packed, and highly unique artisanal batch.
Espadín Artesanal: Produced by Maestro Onofre Ortiz in the Bramaderos region of Miahuatlán. This expression serves as a classic, high-quality showcase of Miahuatlán's distinct terroir, defined by careful, traditional craftsmanship. It delivers a beautifully balanced, approachable profile that highlights the sweet, roasted character of the Espadín agave.
Espadín Capón (Ancestral): A deeply traditional, clay-pot distilled masterpiece crafted by Don Ángel Ángeles in the renowned region of Santa Catarina Minas. This expression utilizes "capón" agaves—where the quiote (flowering stalk) is severed months before harvest to force the plant's final burst of energy and sugar back into the piña. The ancestral clay distillation imparts an incredibly rich, earthy texture and a distinct, rustic minerality.
Jabalí (Ancestral): An ultra-rare, fiercely wild expression crafted by Maestro Rubén López Diego in Santa Catarina Albarradas from 18-year-old Agave convallis. Fermented naturally in oak vats and distilled in 60-liter clay pots, the aroma is remarkably fresh and moist, offering unique spicy notes of moss, nutmeg, native lime peel, and pine needles. The palate is soft and light-bodied, delivering hints of almond oil before transitioning into a delightfully dry, herbal finish of eucalyptus and dried leaves.
Sierra Negra (Ancestral): Also crafted by Rubén López Diego in traditional clay pots, utilizing 11-year-old wild Agave americana. The nose is intensely inviting, opening with deeply roasted agave, delicate ash, and a uniquely pleasant, slightly lactic note akin to fresh whey. The mouthfeel is exquisitely velvety, offering a creamy, sweet attack that evolves beautifully into a highly complex, spiced finish of lemongrass, black pepper, and crushed nutshells.
