Mezcal Nucano

ABOUT:

Mezcal Nucano was born when two young Oaxacans, deeply passionate about their land and traditions, set out to bring their region's ancestral spirit the worldwide recognition it deserves. The brand is named after Nucano (meaning "Great Fire"), a brave Mixtec warrior from local legend who fell in love with Zapotec Princess Donají and sought to bring peace between their two nations. Dedicated to preserving culture in every bottle, Nucano works directly with rural "men of the field" and generational master mezcaleros. They strictly utilize 100% artisanal production methods, including roasting the agaves in underground conical stone ovens for days, crushing them with a horse-drawn stone tahona, naturally fermenting the mosto in oak vats, and double-distilling in traditional copper pots to deliver a truly authentic Oaxacan experience.

MEZCALS OFFERED:

  • Espadín Joven: An authentic, unaged gateway into traditional mezcal, handcrafted in Santiago Matatlán from 100% mature Agave Angustifolia. The palate offers a beautiful, clean balance of natural agave sweetness, subtle herbal notes, and bright citrus zest, wrapped in a smooth, lingering campfire smoke.

  • Espadín Reposado: Rested for up to a year in white oak barrels, this expression develops a beautiful caramel hue and a very light, silky body. It features a strong, vibrant nose of ripe pineapple, grapefruit, orange, and lime. The tasting experience is mellow and sweet, delivering delicate notes of jasmine, orange blossom, vanilla, and a warm touch of cinnamon.

  • Espadín Añejo: Patiently aged in oak barrels for three to five years, this highly mature mezcal is exceptionally complex and aromatic. It presents an extraordinary fruitiness with prominent notes of cherry, fig, and cranberry. As it develops on the palate, rich flavors of cashew, toasted nuts, vanilla, and caramel emerge, culminating in an elegant finish marked by hints of coffee, chocolate, and a gentle, roasted agave smoke.

  • Tobalá Joven: A premium, artisanal spirit crafted from the highly prized, wild-grown Tobalá agave (Agave potatorum) that takes 12 to 15 years to mature on rugged mountainsides. It features a dry, earthy nose with incredible aromatic complexity, showcasing smoky firewood and subtle citrus. The palate bursts with savory and botanical notes of olives, limes, and wild mushrooms, surprisingly giving way to a smooth, sweet peach note on the finish.
