Gente de Mezcal

ABOUT:

Gente de Mezcal ("We are Mezcal People") considers its spirits to be true cultural treasures that preserve the authentic flavors of the Mexican Pueblo. Working with the perspective of mezcal-producing communities at the forefront, the brand is dedicated to honoring ancestral knowledge. Their award-winning spirits are produced in small, respectful lots that maintain local-scale production while highlighting the distinct variety and specific terroir of each crop.

MEZCALS OFFERED:

  • Espadín: Described as "greeting the diminishing storm," this mezcal floods the palate with a floral fan. It starts out electric with a nip of macho chili on the tip of the tongue, then rhythmically softens to build up notes of velvety caramel, fading smoothly like a burnt plain into the sunset.

  • Coyote: Known as a "serendipitous Solteco embrace in the highlands." On the nose, citric, caramelized plantain vapors rise from a bed of charcoal. The first taste brings out damp, earthy fruits, and as it lingers on the tongue, the deep but subtle caramel heat of roasted arboreal oils shines through.

  • Tepeztate: Referred to as "Amazon's nightcap." The nose is light, floral, and perfumed, but the palate is lively, flirting between the sweet, refreshing joy of thyme and a soft bitterness. Newly dried bird's beak chilies carry strength throughout, leaving pepper to crackle in a slightly hoppy aftermath.

  • Coyote: Known for its heavy, oily viscosity and wild nature, this expression is light on the nose with soft notes of baked earth. The palate is incredibly bold and mineral-forward, revealing flavors of baked rye bread, dark chocolate, slate, and a spicy hint of red chilies.

  • Tepeztate: Revered by the brand as "the healer," this expression acts as a subtle medicinal ally. It provides cool, refreshing herbaceous breaths, distinct mineral tones, and bright, restorative hints of citrus.

  • Tobalá: Likened to an "old family's seasoned stew pot" and crafted by a fifth-generation master. It smells like a humid jungle after the rain. Made from the wildest of agaves, it comes on strong with herbal tones and a deep, lasting, savory flavor reminiscent of a simmering home-cooked beef broth, brightened by a delicate touch of rosemary.
