Corte Vetusto

ABOUT:

Corte Vetusto is recognized as one of the world’s most highly awarded mezcal brands, operating with a philosophy where "heritage meets prestige." Crafted in a single-village palenque, their spirits showcase a profound respect for artisanal and ancestral traditions. Utilizing 100% natural, slow processes—such as conical earthen pit roasting, tahona milling, and natural fermentation—the brand sets itself apart with unique double-distillation methods that often employ both classic copper pot stills and rare, ancient clay pots. These micro-batch releases are created to highlight the pure, exceptionally rare expressions of both the agave and the Oaxacan terroir.

MEZCALS OFFERED:

  • Espadín: The flagship artisanal spirit where the Corte Vetusto story begins. Crafted from 7 to 8-year-old Agave Angustifolia with a touch of "secret agave" for complexity, it is double-distilled in copper pot stills. The aroma features roasted agave and hints of black fruit and raisin, leading to an alluring backdrop of smoke, earthiness, and burnt sugar. The palate offers a weighty mouthfeel with an enticing mix of agave, smoke, and herbaceous notes, finishing with a lingering touch of dried fruits, wood spice, and butterscotch.

  • Tobalá: A celebration of patience and rarity crafted from wild Tobalá harvested in the Oaxacan highlands. This expression is distinctively double-distilled—first in copper and then finished in ancestral clay pot stills for a refined, mineral edge. It boasts an alluring perfume of white flowers, tropical fruit (melon), and minerals. The taste is a silky combination of roasted agave, floral notes, and subtle wet earth, ending with a balanced, complex finish of cooked fruit, wood spice, and gentle BBQ smoke.

  • Ancestral Ensamble (Coyote & Espadín): A profoundly earthy and complex release honoring the almost lost tradition of double-distilling exclusively in ancestral clay pot stills. It presents aromas of caramelized agave combined with grapefruit peel, marmalade, and green leaves. The palate features a rich mouthfeel with notes of dried cherry, earthy vegetation, and subtle leather, leading to a long finish of caramelized molasses, malt, cherry wood, and mild tannins.

  • Ancestral Single Agave (Arroqueño): A majestic, limited-release ancestral mezcal. The nose opens with pronounced scents of seawater and minerality, combined with vegetative agave and wood spice. The tasting experience delivers savory notes of dried dark fruits and dates that give way to elegant cognac and sherry cask notes, finishing with a pleasant, lingering fade of dried fruit and salted almonds.

  • The Rising (Pechuga): A velvety and aromatic traditional Pechuga meant for meaningful celebrations. It is distilled a second time with an abundance of seasonal fruits, nuts, and a wild turkey breast suspended in the still. The aroma brings soft orchard fruits, toasted nuts, honeyed agave, and a whisper of velvet smoke. The palate is luxuriously round, featuring a warm nutty core, succulent fresh pear and citrus, and a gentle umami richness that perfectly underscores the classic agave backbone, leaving an elegant finish of warm spices and dried fruit compote.
