Mal De Amor

ABOUT:

Set in Santiago Matatlán—deep in the agave-rich heartland of Oaxaca—Palenque Mal de Amor is the proud home of the globally renowned Ilegal Mezcal. This palenque represents the beautiful realization of a lifelong dream for the Hernández brothers, fourth-generation mezcaleros who grew up among the local agave fields, migrated during tough economic times, and ultimately returned to their roots to honor their heritage. Recently featured on 60 Minutes for their incredible story and commitment to sustainable, high-quality production, Palenque Mal de Amor serves as the vibrant center of its community. A visit here is a deeply authentic immersion into the pride, tradition, and meticulous craftsmanship that goes into producing some of the highest-standard artisanal mezcal in the world.
