The Multicultural Institute - Work & Mission
Since 1991, The Multicultural Institute have been a home for the day laborer and domestic worker community—the backbone of the Bay Area’s thriving economy. Since its inception MI has envisioned a community in which immigrants, regardless of their immigration status, are embraced and valued in the communities in which they live and work.
Our community is the backbone of our region’s economy and culture, but too often, and especially now in this political climate and threats from the current administration, they live in the shadows due to fear of retaliation, deportation and family separation.
At the Multicultural Institute, we partner with immigrants and their families on their journey to dignified housing, employment, educational success and medical care. With locations in Berkeley, Richmond, and Redwood City, our work is rooted in love and community belonging. Through deep relationships of trust, we provide a strong foundation for the future—standing with the immigrant community to improve working conditions, dismantle barriers, advocate for rights, and create opportunities for youth and families.
Most of all, The Multicultural Institute offers a true sense of home for all—a beacon of love, hope, and resilience.
