Herb Alpert Cocktail
Named after the famous musician, this drink has serious brass. It pairs mezcal with the vegetal heat of fresh jalapeño, bright lime juice, and the rich, ginger-spiced notes of falernum.
Ingredients:
1 oz. mezcal
1 oz. jalapeño-infused blanco tequila
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1⁄2 oz. rich simple syrup (2:1)
8 leaves fresh oregano
Instructions:
Shake all of the ingredients with ice to chill, then double-strain into a chilled coupe.
Jalapeno-infused blanco tequila: Use a paring knife to remove the seeds and membranes from 4 fresh jalapeño peppers. Add the seeds and membranes to a 750-ml. bottle of blanco tequila (reserve the peppers for another use); strain after 20 minutes and use within 2 weeks
