Unito Mezcal was born from a desire to create a "Mezcal Made Easy"—a highly accessible, premium well spirit designed to welcome everyone without the pretension or gatekeeping often found in the agave space. Founded by Beno, the lead singer of the Mexican rock band Genitallica, the brand is a heartfelt tribute to his grandfather, Don Benito, and the cherished Sundays they spent together talking about life and boxing. Unito is deeply rooted in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca (often called the world capital of mezcal), where it is crafted by a family with 85 years of distillation history: Don Justo Santiago Sernas, his son Don Abundio, and grandson Ernesto "Neto" Santiago. Operating under the strict promise of "100% Agave. Not Fake," the brand is lab-certified to be completely additive-free. They honor traditional artesanal methods by slow-roasting the agave in conical stone ovens, crushing it with a traditional tahona, fermenting naturally in pine wood tanks, and double-distilling in copper stills. Their goal is to create an incredibly clean, intentionally low-smoke profile that bridges the gap between Oaxacan tradition and the modern, everyday drinker.
