ABOUT:

Since 1840, six generations of the Cortés family have been producing mezcal in Oaxaca.

In 2007, Valentín Cortés along with his brother Rolando and son Asis, created Casa Cortés, a company that would bring a taste of their culture to the world. Together, they have assembled a community of families that not only craft beautiful and rare mezcals, but also believe in the preservation of culture through sustainability and honoring the sacred agave.

Erstwhile was founded in 2017 by Yuan and Kevin, two mezcal enthusiasts who were inspired by the traditional methods and culture of mezcal production. They believe that mezcal is a complex and nuanced spirit that deserves to be appreciated by a wider audience.

Casa Cortés, an Oaxacan family-owned venture, offers a portfolio of three artisanal mezcal brands: Nuestra Soledad, El Jolgorio, and Agave de Cortés. Each brand is deeply rooted in a traditional, family-based approach to production across various regions of Oaxaca, emphasizing the heritage of the spirit. Their selection highlights the terroir and unique agave species, ranging from single-batch Espadín expressions to limited-edition mezcals made from rare and wild agave.
