Acre Mezcal

ABOUT:

La Tierra de Acre (also known as Acre Mezcal) was born out of the chic, award-winning Acre Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. Designed to be an authentic reflection of the land, the brand exclusively partners with small-batch, multi-generational family mezcaleros in Durango and Oaxaca who prioritize sustainability and deep-rooted heritage above all else. They work closely with two distinct artisan families: Jorge Burciaga in Valle Florida, Durango (who painstakingly crushes agave by hand with an axe and repurposes production waste into adobe bricks for the local community) and Honorato Cruz, hailing from the indigenous Zapotec village of Santa Ana del Río in Oaxaca. Production strictly honors ancestral and artisanal methods: agave hearts are slow-roasted in earthen pit ovens for up to five days, crushed by an axe or heavy stone tahona, naturally fermented in open-air wooden vats with natural spring water, and double-distilled. The result is an award-winning portfolio that beautiful captures the diverse terroirs of Mexico.

MEZCALS OFFERED:

  • Espadín: Crafted by Maestro Honorato Cruz in Oaxaca using Agave angustifolia, matured for 7 to 8 years. This highly approachable expression features a medium nose bursting with floral notes and inviting hints of smoked agave, pineapple, and lime. On the palate, it introduces a slight, warming spice on the first sip before mellowing into a sweet, light finish—a natural sweetness brought forward by the slow, careful roasting of the mature agave.

  • Tobalá: A premium expression crafted by Honorato Cruz from wild-harvested Agave Tobalá. It features a medium, inviting nose and an exceptionally soft, delicate texture on the palate. The tasting profile is distinctly herbal and earthy, presenting deep, complex notes of chocolate and tobacco, culminating in a fresh, sweet touch and a deeply satisfying smoky finish.

  • Tepeztate: A remarkably complex and eccentric artisanal mezcal crafted from wild Agave Marmorata that spends up to 25 years battling the elements before harvest. The decades of growth translate into a profound depth of flavor, offering intense floral, herbal, and root aromas. On the palate, it delivers a highly dynamic, fresh-tasting experience layered with sweet citrus notes and a lingering, terroir-driven finish.

  • Cenizo: Crafted by Maestro Jorge Burciaga in Durango from wild Cenizo agave, which grows abundantly in the region's mineral-rich soils. Uniquely milled by hand using an axe to ensure perfectly uniform fibers for fermentation, this award-winning expression boasts a deeply complex profile. It delivers an earthy texture accented by bright, spicy, and peppery notes, wrapping up with an exceptionally light and smooth finish.
