The Latin Vibes Only Playlist

This is a photo of me with my dad and two sisters. I was just five years old.

I didn’t know it then, but something my dad did every weekend had a profound impact on me.

What was it?

He sang and played guitar in a band called “Los Mocambos”. They played Latin hits and traditional songs from Mexico.

I come from a large family so a lot of his gigs were family weddings, quinceaneras, and birthdays.

I spent many weekends playing on the dance floor at bars, community centers, and dance halls until the wee hours of the morning.

I didn’t like everything they played...but every once in a while, I remember hearing a song that really moved me.

When the right beat hit the bongos or the maracas hit the rhythm just right, I would stop what I was doing, look up at the stage, and bob my head.

All these years later, I still love Latin music. Not all of it…but every once in a while, I hear a song that makes my head nod. And it takes me right back to my childhood, looking up at the stage, and seeing my dad enjoying it too.

To honor those moments, I started making a Spotify playlist called “Latin Vibes Only”.

Today, I’m sharing it with you here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7m1ri9qNyN2bGHT4miUDdf?si=CW7mN2z-T1GiqeaGqyZMTQ
