ABOUT:

Mezcal Burrito (often recognized globally as Burrito Fiestero) is a vibrant, deeply sustainable brand that champions the wild, rugged terroir of Durango in Northern Mexico. Operating out of a restored 16th-century Franciscan monastery now known as Hacienda Maguey in the village of San Nicolás de Acevedo, the brand is the region's largest employer. Guided by Maestro Mezcalero Juan Manuel Conde, Burrito Fiestero is fiercely dedicated to conservation, leading a robust reforestation initiative that replants multiple agaves for every bottle produced. In a charming nod to the region's heritage, all of their high-altitude wild agaves are hand-harvested and transported down the steep mountainsides using traditional burros.



MEZCALS OFFERED:

  • Cenizo (Artisanal): The brand’s highly approachable, unaged flagship expression crafted from 100% wild Agave durangensis (Cenizo) that matures for 10 to 14 years. It brilliantly showcases the classic, lactic (cheese-like) funk that Durango mezcals are famous for. The nose offers an inviting, buttery sweetness. On the palate, it delivers a remarkably smooth, candy-like profile bursting with melon, buttered popcorn, and soft floral notes, all anchored by a very gentle, polite whisper of smoke.

  • Ensamble (Artisanal): A masterful, complex field blend showcasing the harmony of wild Cenizo and the bright, herbal Agave salmiana (locally known as Verde). This unique ensamble offers a striking contrast to southern Oaxacan blends. It greets the senses with vibrant, green vegetal notes of bell pepper and jalapeño. The tasting journey is sweet and unexpectedly fruit-forward, featuring fascinating hints of grape candy and zesty lemon drops, finishing with an elegant, medium-bodied smoke.

  • Ancestral Masparillo: A highly prized, high-proof expression distilled strictly using their clay-and-wood ancestral methods. Crafted from the rare, yellowish-green Masparillo agave, it provides an exotic, incredibly rich drinking experience. The palate is intensely complex, weaving sweet notes of carrots and tropical fruit with savory layers of clay, BBQ jerky, and a mystical, fragrant incense-like spice.

  • Ancestral Tepemete: Another ultra-premium ancestral release crafted from wild Tepemete agave. Because it is distilled in clay pots, it possesses a wonderfully heavy, colloidal mouthfeel. It is celebrated for its deep, rich sweetness, rewarding the drinker with comforting, decadent notes of date syrup, sweet potato, banana bread, and wet clay.

  • Ancestral Castilla: Crafted from wild Castilla agave, this unaged ancestral expression focuses on the bright, pristine elements of the northern terroir. It perfectly balances fresh green herbs and tropical fruits with a distinct, clean minerality and a subtle, refined smokiness.
