El Silencio Mezcal

ABOUT:

Artisanal by design, El Silencio is crafted in small batches in San Baltazar, Oaxaca, using time honored techniques that preserve the agave’s natural complexity. The result is a mezcal with a delicate smoke, layered spice, and a crisp, lingering finish.

Inspired by Oaxaca’s barro negro pottery, the signature black bottle honors the region’s heritage: its smoky sheen echoes the earth and fire behind every pour, while its bold silhouette signals a modern take on tradition.

Smooth, balanced, and endlessly mixable, El Silencio is the quiet upgrade your cocktail needed.

MEZCALS OFFERED:

El Silencio Mezcal has successfully revived the ancient art of artisanal mezcal, crafting premium, small-batch spirits in San Baltazar Guelavila, Oaxaca. Led by a ninth-generation Maestro Mezcalero, the brand avoids all additives and industrial processes in favor of organic, sustainable practices. El Silencio stands out for its bold, "defiant spirit" and its deep commitment to community and environment—exemplified by their completely self-sustaining, zero-waste distillery and eco-retreat, Casa Silencio. By combining ancient tradition with humane, forward-thinking practices (like utilizing solar energy to power their heavy tahona wheel instead of relying on animal labor), El Silencio delivers a remarkably pure and culturally rich tasting experience.

  • Espadín: A mezcal meticulously handcrafted for mixology and casual sipping alike. Made using strictly selected 10-to-12-year-old Espadín agaves, it yields an unlikely yet perfectly integrated combination of aromas, bringing together tropical fruits and a classic campfire scent. Exceptionally soft on the mouth, the palate is dominated by sweet, ripe fruits supported by a sturdy backbone of subtle, intermingled smoke and baking spices.

  • Ensamble: Designed as a symphony of wild agaves, this super-premium spirit is a harmonious blend of Espadín, Tobasiche, and Mexicano. It takes the drinker on a true journey of discovery, slowly revealing its layers as it sits on the palate. While the Espadín provides a familiar, smooth fruit foundation, the two wild agave varietals heighten the senses by introducing unexpected, delicate floral undertones and a lively hint of chili notes.

  • Rare: An unrivaled, special-release premium mezcal crafted from a meticulous blend of Espadín, Bicuishe, and Barril agaves. Clocking in at 40% ABV, its bouquet opens with rich aromas of winter fruits, warm spices, leathery notes, and sweet mesquite roast. On the palate, it rewards the senses with an unsurpassed depth of flavor, marrying notes of sweet ripe agave, earthy mushrooms, nuts, and oak with a beautifully balanced, medium-smoky finish.
