Espíritu Corsa

ABOUT:

Espíritu Corsa is a proudly traditional mezcal producer based in San Agustín Amatengo, a small Oaxacan town renowned for its deep-rooted mezcal heritage. In 2010, the company acquired its own palenque (distillery) to ensure complete control over their entirely artisanal processes, guaranteeing uncompromising quality without any intermediaries. Operating on a philosophy that honors the cultural identity and ancestral continuity of Oaxaca—where agave and its spirits have historically been considered divine gifts used in spiritual ceremonies—Espíritu Corsa works alongside master mezcaleros spanning three generations. They focus on preserving traditional production methods: roasting agave in underground pit ovens, milling with a horse-drawn tahona, fermenting naturally in wooden vats with airborne yeasts, and distilling in classic copper pots. Under the Espíritu Corsa umbrella, they produce three distinct labels, each designed for a different moment and a different palate.

MEZCALS OFFERED:

  • Espíritu Lauro (Ensamble): The company’s flagship artisanal expression, named in honor of founder Don Lauro Martínez, who developed the original distillation formula in the 1920s. Bottled at 40% ABV, it is a sophisticated, small-batch blend of 70% Espadín (matured 6-9 years) and 30% wild Karwinskii (matured 15-17 years). The nose is exceptionally fresh and mineral-driven with mild smoke and subtle floral notes. On the palate, it is rich, balanced, and complex, opening with deep cinnamon and chocolate before evolving into bright, herbaceous notes of pine and sweet baked jalapeños, finishing long and slightly sweet.

  • Santa Pedrera (Espadín): A bold, higher-proof expression crafted from 100% Espadín agave that matures underground for 7 to 9 years, bottled at a robust 46% ABV. Marketed under the badass motto "Rompedor de Tristezas" (Breaker of Sorrows), it is designed for those who live life with intensity. The aroma leaps from the glass with refreshing notes of lemongrass and a classic balance of rich agave and minerals. The palate is full-throated, strong, and audacious—bursting with rich roasted agave, sea salt, and a deeply satisfying, classic Oaxacan character.

  • Buenbicho: Designed as the perfect, highly accessible introductory mezcal for new enthusiasts, bottled at a smooth 38% ABV. Pouring transparent and brilliant in the glass, it honors the pure, authentic essence of Oaxaca. The aroma is intense, earthy, and lightly smoky. On the palate, it delivers a vibrant, clean, and beautifully balanced flavor profile highlighting the sweet core of the agave intertwined with bright herbal and citrus notes, all wrapped up in a robust body with an unctuous finish.
